MEC REGRETS LOSS OF LIFE AND APPEALS FOR CALM



The acting MEC for the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management, Oageng Molapisi regrets the loss of life of a toddler and asked for thorough investigation.

It was reported that on Tuesday (21/04/2020) the community in Boikhutso, Lichtenburg were incensed when an eight child was hit by police vehicle and died at the scene at around 13H: 00.

The unrestrained community reportedly then torched three vehicles, two belonging to the police and an ambulance called to the scene to assist the child. Two traffic vehicles were also reportedly pelted with rocks by the community.

MEC Molapisi sent condolences to the family of the deceased. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the child. We will offer support as the Police are investigating what exactly happened”.

Ditsobotla Local Municipality MMC for Community Safety, Maria Gulube went to the scene immediately to try and calm the community. “We are pleading with the community to avoid breaking the lockdown regulations”.

The police reportedly were on their usual patrol when the sad incident happened. MEC Molapisi appealed to the community to allow the law to take its course. “We are appealing to our people to allow the police to do their investigation unhindered.”
